Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Operational Services GIS/OMS, the GIS Specialist is responsible for effective provisioning, server side applications installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of the GIS hardware and software platforms. This position is responsible for System level maintenance, programming, development and advanced editing in the GIS application to meet business requirements. Proactively investigates, understands and articulates GIS issues, processes, and industry opportunities to recommend solutions that can be applied to Operational Services. This role participates in technical research and works with industry peers in the development of these applications to enable continuing innovation within the enterprise. This role has the ability to design, develop, install, implement, document and maintain software services and databases; analyzes tests and troubleshoots application solutions; and provides support to the operating needs of the Operational Services GIS/OMS.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the GIS and associated applications and extensions including
- System upgrades/patches
- Integrate GIS system with other Alectra enterprise systems
- Users, Roles, Access permission
- Troubleshooting
- Issue resolution
- GIS Database tuning
- Maintain system integrity
- Application License Server administration
- System configuration e.g. QA/QC & Business rules
- Designs and implements redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to protect integrity of data assets
- Adhere to Alectra Security Protocol requirements
- System development
- Custom tools
- Enterprise System Integrations
- Prepare Design, Testing and System documentation
- Assist with System Architecture development
- Create advanced queries, reports, dashboards, exports and complete mass updates and perform data analysis as required
- Provide End User training & documentation, GIS Operational Framework documentation, Process documentation and Provides technical assistance and support to end users
- Perform other duties related to the position, which may occur in an unplanned or emergency situation
- Some travel and overtime may be required
Education & Specialized Knowledge:
- College diploma or university degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or equivalent qualification
Specialized Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- Advanced knowledge of Hexagon Intergraph Technologies setup, maintenance and administration
- Advanced knowledge of OT systems (e.g. CYME, FME, CADD, ArcGIS Online/Portal is an asset)
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Programming skills & Programming language e.g. SQL, C#, VB.NET, etc.
- Working experience with ORACLE
Experience:
- 5 years experience in a Operational Technology field
- 5 years GIS Applications experience
- 5 years experience developing and implementing business processes

- Requires basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
- Professional image and ability to make sound, confident decisions and demonstrate leadership skills
- Must hold and maintain a valid class "G" driver's license
