Duties:
The successful candidate will be a member of BC Hydro's Telecom Engineering Design Team. The successful candidate will take on in progress and new engineering design projects under the guidance of a Work Package Manager, and/or Engineering Team Lead. Work effectively in a group environment with team members as well as staff from other disciplines in a manner that is consistent with design objectives. The candidate will complete designs for BC Hydro telecom systems including microwave systems, channel banks, SONET multiplexers, tele-protection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks. BC Hydro follows a rigorous design process based on standards and templates. The candidate will be expected to apply engineering standards and will also be required to participate in their review, revision or development. The candidate will be required to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern. Specific Duties:
* Provide design calculation and drawings for construction of telecom projects involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks. * Report on progress such that other may update project documentation, such as: Project Schedule, Project Execution Plan, Cost and Progress Reports, etc. * Prepare Bill Of Material and coordinating staging and testing of equipment racks prior to shipping for installation
* Prepare test plans and commissioning documents for the evaluation and testing of various telecom equipment
* Prepare technical specifications for the installation of telecommunication infrastructure
* Coordinate and support all installation and commissioning activities for the successful implementation of the design infrastructure * Provide support to the field and control center operators during commissioning of the telecom infrastructure
* Provide troubleshooting support to the field and control center operators during system disturbance events * Providing Project Engineering role for major telecom projects; The Project Engineer is accountable for the overall planning, delivery and technical integration of the various design work packages within the approved scope, cost and schedule
* Provide study reports outlining alternatives, cost estimates and recommend solutions for various telecommunication requirements * Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
