Position Summary

This is a professional career opportunity in Human Resources for a candidate interested in enhancing their HR experience in Duke Energy's HR Consulting Services organization. HR Consulting Services provides guidance and advice to managers and employees in several areas including, HR policy and program interpretation and application, goal setting and performance coaching, compensation and recognition and employee escalations.  Under general supervision, employees at this level solve moderately complex problems in human resource areas of specialization. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and possess the ability to work independently. This position is located in Charlotte, NC, and may require occasional travel to regional operations locations.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to manager and employee inquiries about a broad range of HR topics (HR policies and procedures, compensation programs, staffing and selection processes, performance management, labor relations, etc.) utilizing a case management tool.
  • Coaches supervisors and managers on how to effectively address internal employee relations issue and advises on the development of an appropriate course of prevention, action and follow-up. Utilizes sound judgment and knowledge of investigative techniques to establish an investigation approach and prepare investigative summaries that document findings.
  • Supports strategic HR Business Partner and leaders with employee relations and all types of employment matters through the use of data and trends. Provides professional and confidential HR advice to HR Business Partners on potentially sensitive matters and serves as central point of contact for policy interpretation, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Develops or increases knowledge of the organization, procedures and customers. Analyzes and understands information, past practices and business objectives to make appropriate recommendations to management/assigned customers. 
  • Consults on the development of various HR documentation, such as organizational charts and performance assessments.
  • Maintains appropriate case management documentation.
  • Educates managers of services available to them and encourages the use of self-service tools
  • Develops positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees and management to effectively complete work activities.
  • Raises issues as appropriate. Suggests process development & improvement of activities.
  • Works across multiple HR disciplines within a shared services environment.
  • Works on HR projects.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment which will include prolonged sitting at desk or work station, exposure to personal computer monitor, and frequent use of keyboard and phone.
  • May be required to travel to other locations occasionally.

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or 7 years of related work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Highly proficient with MS Office Products and technology tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or Human Resource Management
  • Master's degree in Human Resources or Human Resource Management
  • PHR or SPHR Certification
  • Three years related HR experience in a shared services advisory team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, research and resolution skills required to analyze complex concerns/issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and display good negotiating skills when dealing with diverse customer expectations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle and manage confidential information
  • Ability to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management, including effective interpersonal skills (e.g., influencing and listening skills)
  • Ability to work under time constraints and associated pressures
  • Ability to work occasional irregular hours to meet 24/7 business needs
