The Meter Mechanic Apprentice/Tester assists with the installation, change, removal, repair, inspection, testing and calibration of all types of meters and metering equipment for correct wiring and accuracy of metering; operation of meter test equipment according to documented procedures; and troubleshooting to determine faults in meters, metering equipment and test boards. The Meter Mechanic/Tester Apprentice also assists Measurement Canada Inspectors in verifying meters and meter installations. These duties will be performed to the level of the applicable skills and knowledge of the incumbent, under the direction of a Certified Meter Mechanic/Tester and/or Certified Crew Leader, Meter.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.
Successful candidates must possess the following competencies and will be pre-screened for those bolded, prior to the interview portion of the selection process. Competencies are listed in order of significance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assemble, install, and maintain all revenue metering installations including meter panels, both single phase, three phase and all associated instrument transformers and wiring. install, change and remove all types of meters, instrument transformers and metering equipment and troubleshoot to determine faults in meters, metering equipment and test boards, from work orders, specifications, standards, instructions and analysis of prints, sketches and diagrams
- Inspect and test all types of meter installations for correct wiring of meters, metering equipment and accuracy of metering
- Perform routine maintenance on departmental equipment and machinery
- Inform customers of service requirements, energy savings measures, power factor correction and other public relation services as required
- Liaise with customers and Measurement Canada for metering disputes
- Liaise/resolve issues with contractors/electricians as it pertains to Toronto Hydro metering requirements and configurations as per the conditions of service
- Issue, return and scrap all inventory material and equipment to and from the field
- Assemble, install and maintain all FIT/MicroFIT metering installations including communication connections
- Maintain detailed accurate records on metering installations; ensure their continued accuracy and coordinate timely reverification of metering in accordance with requirements of Measurement Canada
- Troubleshoot electrical problems regarding metering services. Able to perform cross phasing analysis of complex polyphase metering installations
- Install and troubleshoot communication problems regarding metering services (phone lines, wireless modem networks, proprietary LAN networks)
- Conduct work in a manner that is sensitive to customer and public safety and needs
- Demonstrate safety awareness and adhere to safety rules and regulations
- Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Utility, and EUSA Rule Books
- Operate a vehicle and associated equipment
COMPETENICES:
- Graduation from an accredited post-secondary institution with an Electrical, Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Technician/Technologist diploma
- Must have a valid class "G" Driver's License in the Province of Ontario
- Eligible for O.A.C.E.T.T. Accreditation
- Knowledgeable in the electric utility metering field preferred
- Familiar with the IESO, Measurement Canada and Electricity Act and Regulations is an asset
- Demonstrate experience in a variety of business computer software such as Microsoft office
