Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Senior Power Trader, you will be responsible for developing, initiating, executing, and monitoring short term financial and virtual trading strategies. Supporting commercial functions related to our asset management, business development, operations, and risk management groups is an important component of the role.
In addition, the profitable movement of energy within and across eastern Canada and the US Northeast electrical grid, mid-marketing and deal flow liquidity, and overall Northeast bulk power system expertise supporting Emera Energy's trading and marketing business is a key responsibility. This would include, but not be limited to, commodity and transmission arbitrage, financial product execution, Basis and FTR management, and third-party relationship development.
You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction, by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
A university degree in Business, the Applied Sciences or equivalent is required. The successful candidate will possess 2-5 years of work experience across power scheduling, trading, and/or asset managing generation within ISO-NE or the broader Northeast - specific trading experience will be considered an asset.
You bring a working knowledge of the US Northeast and Eastern Canadian wholesale power markets and their design, scheduling systems, and market rules. Demonstrated numerical and analytical skills along with a pro-active problem solving aptitude will be essential for success in this role.
An understanding of energy derivatives, their application and pricing characteristics is fundamental. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and results driven environment while managing tight timelines. You possess strong relationship and team-building skills as well as excellent multi-tasking abilities and problem resolution skills.
