Position Purpose:
Lead and direct an underground crew, ensure job safety, plan and do daily line work, ensure work is done in compliance with line standards and complete necessary paperwork.
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of Work Procedures Manual, EUSA Rule Book and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as they pertain to the work.
- Install and maintain underground plant, in both single and three phase construction methods.
- Perform approved live line work using rubber gloves, protective cover-up equipment and live line tools.
- Connect, troubleshoot and conduct repairs to the electrical distribution system.
- Familiar with switching procedures and the Utility Protection Code, which includes being certified.
- Capable of and expected to work under emergency conditions during unplanned outages.
- Perform locating procedures for new and existing lines and to locate faulted secondary and primary cables using designated equipment.
- Daily requisitioning of material in and out of stores.
- Complete voltage reading sheets, proof test sheets and a daily time sheet if required.
- Perform the installation of random P.I.L.C splice.
- Ability to take on the role of a Lead Hand as directed by Supervisor.
- Support and participate in corporate Health and Safety initiatives and programs
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or recognized equivalent.
- Qualified Journeyperson Power Cableperson, including the successful completion of the M.E.A. Cableperson Training Program.
- Demonstrated ability to use all equipment associated with the trade.
- Demonstrated ability to work from work orders, specifications, standards and instructions, able to interpret prints, sketches and diagrams and know how to operate a laptop PC to retrieve legend information for daily work and for after-hours trouble.
- Readily available for On-Call/Standby duty and emergency call outs.
- Physically fit to perform position responsibilities.
