An opportunity currently exists for an Electrical Engineer within AltaLink's Project Engineering team. The successful candidate will work with internal and external technical staff to ensure that new substation, transmission line and telecommunication facilities are appropriately integrated into AltaLink's system. As such, this individual will provide technical leadership at all critical project phases -- from planning through to implementation and final acceptance. Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Manager, Project Engineering this individual will be responsible for the following:
- Accountable for project engineering decisions as owners engineer on projects.
- Coordinate and lead engineering resources as they are required to support project engineering needs.
- Develop project scoping documents (Project Estimating Scopes/ Design Base Memorandums) that provide clear direction and allow accurate estimating to an EPCM contractor.
- Work closely with stakeholders and customers to fully understand their needs when developing Service Proposals and Design Base Memorandums.
- Provide technical direction and answer EPCM contractors' questions to ensure each project meets acceptable standards for operability, functionality, maintainability, reliability, durability and safety.
- Facilitate engineering related communication and support among the project manager, EPCM contractor, and other internal and external stakeholders working with the project team.
- Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, partners and internal clients that result in growing understanding, good decisions and effective cooperation.
- As the point of EPCM contact on engineering aspects of assigned projects, maintain regular contact for progress of work, exchange of information and advice.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position are as follows:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and in good standing with APEGA or other provincial engineering association.
- Minimum 5 years of experience required.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Technical knowledge and understanding of electric system design, operation, maintenance, performance and equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment, positively influence others, and develop strong internal and external relationships.
- Able to take a leadership role for resolving technical issues and comfortable taking accountability for project engineering decisions.
- Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven track record of producing innovative, productivity enhancing and forward thinking solutions.
