Our System Control Centre team manages and operates AltaLink's transmission wire facilities in real-time, 24 hours per day. Assets include over 13,000 kilometers of transmission lines and 300 substations. As an AltaLink Control Centre Operator, you play a key role in overseeing the safe and reliable transmission of electricity and must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift.
Responsibilities
Monitor, control and operate the AltaLink power system facility assets and fulfill AltaLink's interconnection requirements by:
- Operating the AltaLink system in accordance with AltaLink's Transmission Operating Procedures;
- Maintaining adequate voltage on transmission busses;
- Monitoring element loading and implementing preventative and corrective action to minimize the number of violations;
- Assessing impact of and implementing the corrective actions required to restore the AltaLink system to a stable state of minimum risk.
- In addition, the system operator provides information concerning the state of the system by logging events, changes to system components or system configuration, recording disturbances and trouble as well as interacting with interconnected customers and utilities.
- Prepares reports for the updating of documentation.
- Prepares and safely carries out pre-arranged and emergency switching procedures on AltaLink's power system.
- Complies with NERC Operating policies that pertain to AltaLink's transmission operators.
Qualifications
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum requirement of Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or Power System Electrician or Journeyman Power Lineman or equivalent related utility experience.
- Will be required to attain NERC certification as a Transmission Operator.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
- Knowledge and experience in electricity transmissions systems an asset.
- SAP knowledge an asset. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
