Job Summary:

Flies fixed-wing aircraft in support of TVA's missions.  These missions include executive travel and support for TVA power production.  Serves as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command (SIC) of turbine powered aircraft.

In conjunction with the other pilot(s), helps plan and execute the flight in a safe and professional manner.

Approves flight schedules and routings; conducts refueling, maintenance checks and decision making to ensure air worthiness of aircraft and safety of passengers and crew.

Supervision Received:

Supervision and guidance are provided by the department manager and are generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines, and work priorities.  Incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision in accordance with TVA's Aircraft Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, and Airman's Information Manual.

Skills and Proficiencies: (May be job or organization specific)

The pilot must maintain currency and proficiency as to day and night takeoffs, landings, and instrument flight time in the aircraft to which he or she is assigned in accordance with the Federal Aviation Regulations.

Possesses piloting skills to accomplish all TVA aviation programs.  Is knowledgeable in FARs (Federal Aviation Regulations) and other applicable regulations.  Has ability to approve landing sites, arrange for fuel, maintenance, support, and executive/VIP transport.  Has knowledge of local terrain and obtains and interprets weather observations and forecasts and makes decisions which affect the safety of the operation.

Minimum Qualifications: (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements:

  • High school education with some college or equivalent in experience required.
  • Must hold a current Class II Medical Certificate.  Must hold an airline transport pilot license with a multi-engine land rating.  Certified Flight Instructor certification desirable.
  • Must have total flight time of 3500 hours (fixed wing).  PIC time: 2000 hours in multi-engine fixed wing aircraft of which 500 hours must be in turbine-powered fixed wing aircraft.
