Description
Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) is looking for a proven leader to join our Meter and Connection team. This individual will provide direction, technical expertise, analysis, and management for supervisory and field operations employees responsible for the installation, removal, maintenance and repair of gas and electric meters, gas leak and carbon monoxide investigations, gas and electric emergency response, and customer service inquiries while ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates a safety culture:
    • Sets clear expectations for safety.
    • Trains and coaches with regular safety conversations.
    • Notices and investigates concerns, incidents, and injuries.
  • Implements operational plans in an efficient, cost-effective manner while assuring high-quality standards and regulatory compliance are maintained.
  • Performs reviews of completed work orders to ensure work meets Company and regulatory standards.
  • Manages performance and provides work direction for supervisory and field operations employees. Oversees recruitment, development, and activities of supervisory staff and field operations employees. Provides backup support as required.
  • Monitors departmental Operator Qualification Rule compliance. Conducts Operator Qualification performance evaluations and coordinates Operator Qualification training and testing.
  • Assumes the duties of on-call supervisor for Gas Operations on a rotating basis or as needed in emergency situations.
  • Evaluates and initiates programs to improve quality and overall efficiency of the department.
  • Prepares, submits, and monitors the Fixed Capital Budget and Operations and Maintenance Budget for Meter and Connection.
  • Approves fleet, equipment, and major tooling specifications.
  • Acts as a liaison with federal, state, local, and other agencies and may represent the Company in regulatory matters.
  • May lead (in cooperation with other supervisors, Legal, or external investigators) investigation of accidents or incidents involving delivery of gas service to commercial and residential customers including testifying in court regarding such investigations.
  • May participate as a member of Company bargaining team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years of proven supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working closely with gas or electric distribution or service work; experience in a utility metering environment preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven safety champion.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, project, and systems management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage costs, budgets, personnel, and schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of gas and electric utilization equipment installation, operation, and repair.
  • Familiarity with gas metering and pressure control equipment.
  • Familiarity with the practices and codes governing the design, installation, and repair of utilization equipment and associated piping, wiring, and metering equipment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with administering union labor agreements preferred.
