Position Summary
The Radiation Protection Technician is responsible for implementation of Radiation Protection Policies, Procedures, and Programs. Use of radiation protection processes and detection equipment to protect nuclear power plant workers and the general public from exposure to ionizing radiation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Evaluate technical data and make recommendations to RP management.
- Perform radiation and contamination monitoring in all areas of a nuclear power plant using portable and fixed radiation detection equipment.
- Perform required sampling for liquid and gaseous effluent releases.
- Operate computer applications associated with Radiation Protection job performance.
- Provide on- and off-site radiation and contamination monitoring support to the Emergency Response Organization during drills or actual emergencies.
- Communicate radiological hazards to plant personnel through posting, tagging, pre-job briefings with workers, radiation work permit review and job site surveys.
- Perform job coverage activities in all areas of a nuclear power plant which requires working in extreme temperatures,
- climbing, respiratory protection equipment, lifting, walking and directing work crews.
- Assist in training and qualifying other radiation protection personnel.
- Conduct isotopic analysis of in plant radiological samples.
Basic/Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (e.g. GED)
