The communications manager will serve as a spokesperson for the company. This person is responsible for managing, coordinating and implementing external communications strategies, plans and programs to support the strategic goals and business objectives of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). The communication manager must be a highly skilled writer, capable of developing editorial direction and content for news and information about the company. This person is responsible for developing significant amounts of news content for sharing externally, and maintaining or building relationships with local and state news media.
- The ideal candidate will work with a team to build a strong strategic foundation for integrated communication activities, with a focus on media relations and brand journalism, to create a consistent narrative for SDG&E.
- Storytelling and content generation. Develop daily content for SDG&E's multimedia NewsCenter. Microsite houses SDG&E news and perspectives on key areas and offers a platform for SDG&E's key priorities. Maintain and further develop a repository of images and infographics to visually tell stories.
- Serve as external spokesperson, engaging proactively with major news media outlets, and developing/maintaining strong relationships with the news media. Provide 24-hour media and employee communications response during emergency/crisis situations. Serve as an Emergency Operating Center strategic lead as needed. Serve rotating after-hours on-call duty.
- Support all external communications. Continuously work to identify and correnct inconsistencies in external messaging to ensure it aligns with the company message platform.
- Generate and pitch stories to reporters, respond to press inquiries, as well as write and disseminate press releases, op-ed pieces, newsletters, feature articles, fact sheets, etc.
- Develop, implement and communicate corporate strategy and key messages to a wide variety of audiences in clear language, using a variety of communications tactics.
- Research, write and edit all types of external communication materials.
