This position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the Transmission Engineering organization which consists of engineers and technical specialist knowledgeable of engineering principles, specifications, policies and procedures. The primary focus of this position is to manage, direct, and coordinate employee work functions in order to achieve departmental objectives. This position is responsible for the engineering design, construction support and document control for Transmission Line, Protection & Control, and Substation Engineering projects. The position is responsible for ensuring that systems and designs comply with all applicable regulatory requirements, ex. NESC, NERC, public utilities commission, environmental, etc.
The geographic span of control for this position includes work conducted in the individual geographical territories of Duke Energy. The Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction relative to:
- Managing and developing a diverse staff and organization of 60-100 engineering and technical professionals.
- Assuring engineering and technical professionals know and comply with appropriate codes and standards.
This position is accountable to ensure the work group is well positioned with appropriate tools, processes, and resources to effectively manage all aspects of the work. This position serves as the management point of contact with other departments and organizations, both internally and externally as related to the regional transmission system design and configurations.
Customers include Distribution, Transmission Maintenance, Industrial accounts, Wholesale accounts, Generation, Transmission Planning, and Outside Services. Annual capital budget for planned projects with total projects budgets ranging from $80 to $250 million depending on funds availability.
