JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Designer, Apprenticeship Programs, is responsible for the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of apprenticeship training programs aligned with Hydro Ottawa's mandate as a Training Delivery Agent in partnership with Algonquin College.
The Instructional Designer, Apprenticeship Programs, works with internal and external subject matter experts and stakeholders to design, develop, implement and evaluate training programs including curriculum content and training materials.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with subject matter experts and internal and external stakeholders to conduct training needs analysis and determine training requirements.
- Develop learning objectives and structure learning activities for the effective development and implementation of training, within the parameters of the Training Delivery Agent requirements.
- Design curriculum and associated training materials, including writing instructional text and developing supporting training materials using a variety of software programs.
- Ensure the effective implementation of training.
- Evaluate training effectiveness post implementation and make recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to convert content into training material that effectively accomplishes the learning objectives.
- Apply instructional design methodologies in the creation of learning solutions and assessments.
- Create and use standard development processes, tools, templates and assessments.
- Design and develop storyboards, scripts, curriculum content and training materials to support various learning needs.
- Create and edit digital imagery, video, audio, still images and effects as required.
- Develop recommendations for future programs and/or revisions to existing programs to ensure the overall quality of training programs and initiatives.
- Manage service agreements with external partners, including liaising with vendors to ensure content is approved and follows copyright law.
- Maintain external training materials, handbooks, user guides; ensure latest versions are referenced.
- Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in a related field preferably in Instructional Design, educational technology or adult learning
- Minimum three years of experience in a similar role
- Excellent knowledge of adult learning principles
- Current and relevant knowledge of instructional design process, learning styles, and techniques
- Experience managing projects and implementing change
- Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products including Publisher and Adobe Creative Cloud
- English essential, both oral and written; bilingualism (French/English) or other languages considered an asset
