Department Overview:
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers.
As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary:
This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.
The Fitter - Arc installs and maintains mains, services, meter and regulator sets, ducts, manholes, vaults, pull boxes, pipe, conduit, and other accessories. The position includes leak investigations or repairs, minor alterations, remodeling domestic type meter and regulator sets, patrolling transmission and distribution mains, as well as performs oxyacetylene and arc welding.
This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.
Job Responsibilities:
- Installs and maintains gas mains, services, gas or electric substructures and other accessories as a member of a crew.
- Performs ARC welding on all gas distribution piping systems.
- Performs all classes of work associated with the gas transmission and distribution systems for which they are qualified.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License
- CA CDL Class A Permit, or equivalent
- Internal PG&E employees: Must have qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam and Work Orientation Inventory Test (WOI), prior to applying for the position.
- External and Hiring Hall Candidates: Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam and Work Orientation Inventory Test (WOI), prior to interviewing.
- Must pass the Arc Welder Qualification for under 20% Of SMYS (w/in 6 months after date of hire)
- Record of Certified Welder training completion
Desired Qualifications:
- 3 years of welding experience within utility industry
- Experience as Welder, journey-level
- To better represent the communities we serve within a timely manner, applicants who live within 50 miles of the headquarter location will be given preference
