Position Summary

Are you interested in cybersecurity research and innovation? Have you ever thought about working with the National Laboratories to develop defense capabilities and security automation for the future?

If you answered yes to these questions, we would love to have you join our PG&E Cybersecurity team to support the California Energy Solutions of the 21st Century (CES-21). In this paid internship, you will be involved in a PG&E flagship program for Cybersecurity and you will contribute to a leading-edge collaborative effort that includes multiple businesses within PG&E, two other Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) in California, as well as two national labs and private-sector partners.

Our team is looking for someone passionate about Cybersecurity and infrastructure technologies to advance Machine-to-Machine Automated Threat Response (MMATR) research. We are a diverse team solving big problems together with agility. We need you to be technically sound, versatile, display leadership qualities and to be enthusiastic in tackling new problems. 

Your work can include, but is not limited to:

  • Assessing the as-is and to-be operations for utilities with the implementation of advanced cybersecurity technologies
  • Creating diagrams and processes for MMATR Scenarios and Use Cases
  • Supporting collaboration workshops with external partners
  • Reviewing and contributing to Indicator Remediation Language development (STIXs)
  • Developing documentation for program reporting and presentations

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with an experienced and passionate team of security professionals.  Our team is committed to creating a meaningful summer experience by providing Technical and professional mentorship to develop greater experience and understanding of PG&E Security goals, capabilities and future career opportunities.

You will be working with our team out of the PG&E offices in downtown San Francisco, with potential monthly day trips to nearby bay area locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the College of Engineering or participating in a cross-disciplinary studies that includes a focus on Infrastructure/ Cybersecurity/ Engineering (students must be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship) 

Desired:

  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Coursework in cybersecurity/ ICS related studies
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • A technical background and/or passion for technology
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Ability to influence and to work with different functions
  • Disciplined and structured
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
  • Self-starter and innovative mindset

PG&E typically is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
