Provide power quality assistance to customers for the purposes of load growth, load retention, and customer satisfaction. Primary focus is on identifying and solving complex power related problems with a goal of keeping large industrial customer's and their supply chain's manufacturing and processing lines operating at full capacity. Other focus areas involve identifying and solving power related problems for smaller customers that are sometimes related to life safety; e.g., stray voltage problems.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Investigate, analyze, and solve power quality related problems at customer locations as an independent operator.
- Provide recommendations to Power Delivery and to customers that will mitigate both APC generated and customer imposed power quality problems.
- Serve as a technical consultant and mediator between customers, vendors, and Power Delivery when dealing with controversial power quality related problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering required
- Professional engineering license preferred
Experience
- Four or more years of electrical engineering experience
- Strong commitment to safety, ability to work safely as an independent worker
- Experience in industrial facilities preferred
- Experience in substations design or operation preferred
- Customer relations experience preferred
- Experience using hand held instruments and power quality meters, including interpretation of related data
- Ability to identify electrical components within panels/equipment and to safely install monitoring devices on live circuits
- Experience using Alabama Power data acquisition systems (or relatable experience) preferred (SCADA, IDMS, SEL relay files, PQ View, CSS, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical engineering systems at customer facilities and on Alabama Power's distribution and transmission systems
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory
- Knowledge and ability to provide recommendations and implement action plans to resolve power quality and/or reliability deficiencies
- Knowledge of electrical engineering designs, principles and practices, applicable codes and standards, including the National Electric Code
- Knowledge and experience required to provide training and/or guidance to internal and external customers in the field of power quality and power systems
- Self-driven, strong drive to resolve power quality issues in a timely manner with minimum supervision
- Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills
- Ability to effectively partner with customers in a professional manner to attain amicable solutions to power quality and/or reliability deficiencies
