Attains and/or maintain a comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and other regulations related to safety & health, and is willing to implement policies and ensure compliance with applicable standards. Serves as the primary safety & health resource for plant employees, shares best practices with the fleet and coordinates initiatives with corporate safety & health. Supports plant management in the implementation of the Southern Company Generation safety and health program.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Industrial Plant experience required, power generation plant experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of industrial safety & health, including accident prevention techniques, personal protection equipment, sampling equipment and engineering control measures.
- Working knowledge of emergency medical treatment procedures, including confined space rescue, hazmat and first responder.
- Knowledge of plant processes and equipment, work methods and procedures.
- Willingness to participate and lead incident investigations.
- Ability to develop safety & health programs and processes to minimize hazards in the workplace.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and leading safety meetings, and developing and delivering safety and compliance related training.
- Ability to provide safety leadership to plant safety teams and safety rovers.
- Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field desirable.
- Minimal travel required (<10%) for system meetings, seminars, training, etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of Plant safety and health strategies, policies, initiatives and action plans monitor effectiveness.
- Identify safety and health training needs, assist in program development, coordinate, monitor, and deliver training as needed.
- Assist supervision in the investigation of safety events, compile report of findings, and recommend corrective actions.
- Facilitate, nurture and ensure the effectiveness of the Plant Safety Committee Team and Safety Rover.
- Maintain knowledge of current, applicable regulatory and Company safety and health standards and apply them to Plant conditions.
- Promote safety and health through actions and effective communication with all levels of employees and management; promote a high level of safety and health awareness.
- Attend and/or conduct safety meetings throughout the plant; with high visibility throughout plant.
- Perform safety observations, identify potential hazards, and make recommendations.
- Provide effective case management in conjunction with Disability Management and Corporate Safety and Health.
- Effectively interface with regulatory agencies.
- Complete annual risk-assessments and help develop action plans as needed.
- Work with and through others.
- Advise management on all items related to safety and health compliance.
- Perform plant safety self-assessments and audits to ensure compliance.
- Promote safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Occasionally support night and weekend safety related activities.
- Assist in contractor safety programs.
- Support team members in areas of fire protection and environmental.

- Knowledge of OSHA and other safety & health related regulations applicable to industrial work places.
