Position Overview
The CAD Technician/Digitizer will be responsible for all facets of design drafting for our existing and perspective Utility clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Completion of design drawings, quantity calculations and as-built drawings for various types of utility projects using various software packages (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation)
- Support Project Designers with project documentation, design calculations and quality drawings
- Create CAD drawings from concept to final design
- Quality check drawings for mistakes
- Assisting in field surveys
- Digitize approved CAD designs into a client database
- Liaise with clients, contractors and internal departments
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel for projects
- Performs other duties as required
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Minimum of one to two years of AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting experience
- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Electrical or Architectural Technology diploma is preferred
- Minimum of one year of digitizing electrical/hydro distribution design experience
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools and Menu's
- Experience with utility projects considered an asset
- Proficient with the use of computers and software, including MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Good understanding of how to read site plans
- Self-motivated, ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities and work cooperatively in a team environment
- Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
- Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness
- Valid class "G" Ontario driver's license and own transportation
