Description
The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting job opportunity for a Process Operator in Charlotte, NC. There are three emulsions reactors which produce more than fifty products of acrylic, vinyl acrylic, and styrene acrylic compositions. These products are sold into the coatings, building and construction, paper, textiles, personal care, and adhesives markets.

Chemical Operators, in cooperation with others, are responsible for the following tasks:

* Safely and accurately completing batches per production schedule and Standard Operating Procedures using advanced process control computers (Emerson DeltaV)

* Assume ownership of assigned work. Follow batches through to completion. Check Quality Control (QC) progress and packaging needs to keep batches moving.

* Filtering and transferring product to storage, package and bulk shipment destinations.

* Perform job duties to satisfactory levels in support of the business and the team. This includes prompt arrival at start of shift, appropriate breaks, and adequate communication between shifts to ensure safe and accurate completion of batches.

* Cooperates with associated functions to support the business: QC Lab, Site Logistics, EH&S and R&D. Know, understand, and contributes to Plant goals.

* Complete Safety and Compliance Checks as directed. Use proper PPE and perform Housekeeping as required.

* Attends/completes training as directed.

* Once Lock-out Tag-out (LO/TO) and Safe Work Permitting (SWP) trained; performs LO/TO and SWP duties.

* Intervenes with unsafe behavior and coaches teammates to do the same. Does not tolerate unsafe acts. Coaches teammates to correct behavior and if necessary reports unsafe acts immediately to EH&S Delivery and leadership.

* Participates in Root Cause Investigations and volunteers for corrective actions.

* Performs initial troubleshooting to best of ability before involving Production Coordinator / On Call support.

* Cleans equipment as needed.

* Operates a forklift as needed.

Qualifications

Require Qualifications: 
* Works a 12 hour rotating shift that includes afternoons, nights, and weekends. 
* Able to learn and successfully operate the DeltaV control platform and computer tools.
* Able to read, write and comprehend documents in English on paper and the computer screen. 
* Able to learn a documented work process and apply it consistently. 
* Able to hear well.
* Able to perform manual labor, climb stairs and ladders, lift 55 lb bags, operate manual valves, and stand/walk for prolonged periods of time.
* Must meet Individual Physical requirements for High Work, which includes but not limited to ladders and personal fall protection per OSHA standards for equipment.
* Must pass an Ergonomic Assessment through Dow Health Services.
* Must have a current, valid US driver's license 
* A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Two years or more chemical industry experience is preferred

Education:
* High School Diploma or GED is required.
* Technical Associates degree or higher is desired.
