The primary purpose of this position is to support Sempra LNG & Midstream's Natural Gas by performing the accounting close functions consistent with Sempra Infrastructure business unit, Sempra Global and Sempra Energy's accounting practices and generally accepted accounting principles.
This position performs the following tasks, among others, with a high level of independence:
- Analyze and record accounting transactions, prepare financial statements, analyses, schedules and reports with an in-depth understanding of transaction flows through financial systems
- Perform month-end close including cost center allocations, elimination entries, and consolidated cash flow statement
- Ensure all journal entries are prepared in an accurate and timely fashion in accordance with GAAP and company policies and properly eliminate with related parties
- Provide affiliate accounting groups with documentation and support for allocations and other intercompany journal entries and schedules that involve or affect their respective groups
- Assist with consolidated earnings flash reports and segment reporting packages for business unit management
- Prepare consolidated disclosure schedules, fluctuation and variance analysis of actual results against plan and against prior periods, and account reconciliations
- Collaborate with various departments including Tax, Planning, Financial Reporting, Audit, Cash Management, Accounts Payable, Accounting Systems & Controls, IT, Operations and other groups to ensure accurate financial data is presented across the company
- Prepare audit schedules, including appropriate documentation for SOX compliance, research historical accounting data and provide analytical data to assist internal and external auditors
- Train, mentor and provide guidance and support to new team members, as well as staff and rotational accountants within the group

Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related business administration field, with proficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required
CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certifications/advanced degree are preferred
Experience:
- Requires at least 5 years of experience in public and/or professional accounting
- Energy industry experience is highly desired
- Experience with accounting systems and knowledge of the month-end accounting close process are required
- Advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Hyperion Financial Management and Microsoft Dynamics AX is valuable in this position
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Experience with multi-company consolidations and prior SEC reporting preferred
- Able to work with large amounts of data, with technical skills to analyze, validate, summarize and reconcile its accuracy
- Must have professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information in a clear and concise manner
- Must effectively interact in a team environment yet possess the level of proficiency to perform the requirements of the role with independence and minimal direction
- Strong organizational and project management skills are highly desirable
- Should be flexible and able to switch quickly from one project to another
- A positive, can-do attitude is expected
