Description
Finance Associate  in Financial Planning and Analysis - Supporting Catawba Nuclear Station

Description of Responsibilities

  • Report and analyze nuclear O&M and capital budget variances.
  • Analyze monthly results and prepare necessary journal entries to ensure accurate and appropriate financial records.
  • Work with representatives from assigned nuclear department(s) to ensure proper charging to O&M vs. Capital and to the appropriate GAAP/FERC accounts within those functions.
  • Assist with the development of annual nuclear budgets.
  • Help develop year-end/quarterly/monthly business unit O&M and capital projections.
  • Work on special projects that support business unit or finance department initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource for technical expertise, guidance, and assistance for questions and problems related to financial business management and appropriate accounting treatments.
  • Review financial related internal controls, for assigned areas, within the nuclear department.
  • Develop financial system queries to support work efforts.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting or Business related fields.     
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills and good sense of business acumen.
  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills.  Proactively responsive and very effective in dealing/building relationships with customers at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong skills and demonstrated competencies in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, Access, etc.) and mainframe applications (PeopleSoft, Power Plant, Business Objects).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting or Business related fields.     
  • Knowledge of detailed accounting needs/procedures, financial and economic analysis used to support the operations of a business unit.
  • General understanding of GAAP accounting principles and internal controls.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar certification (or working toward certification)
  • Experience with various Duke Energy accounting and reporting systems
