Energy Safety Releases Substantial Vegetation Management Audit and Report of San Diego Gas and Electric's 2023 Wildfire Mitigation Plan Update

April 22, 2025

The Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) today (April 21) released its audit and report of San Diego Gas and Electric's (SDG&E) vegetation management work in 2023. Energy Safety's audit and report found that SDG&E substantially complied with a substantial portion of the vegetation management requirements in its 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan for compliance year 2023.

Energy Safety's audit initially found that SDG&E did not provide enough information to verify completion of work in five of 13 vegetation management initiatives in its 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). However, SDG&E submitted a corrective action plan to address the five vegetation management initiative deficiencies (failure to update its quarterly data reports, incomplete vegetation management inspections, incomplete quality assurance and quality control activities, failure to record completed work, and failure to complete work within committed timeframes) with additional information to demonstrate that it had satisfied completion of the initiatives.

Energy Safety's audit found that SDG&E performed the work required for the remaining eight WMP initiatives. No further action is required.

More information can be found on Energy Safety's 2023 WMP Substantial Vegetation Management Audits docket log.
