ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Consolidated Reporting & Financial Systems, as the Supervisor, FSSG you are responsible for overseeing the financial systems and support functions within TransAlta's Finance department. As a leader, you are responsible for managing a team of finance professionals who support and maintain our financial systems, ensure the efficient operation of financial systems, and provide exceptional support to internal stakeholders.
This plays a critical role in optimizing financial processes and contributing to the company's financial success.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead the Financial Systems Support team, set clear expectations, provide guidance and feedback, and motivate the team to achieve their best performance

Co-ordinating business systems support for the finance function and ensuring that emerging issues are addressed in a timely and effective way to maintain the integrity of financial data and systems

Co-ordinating activities and developing cutover plans relevant to the integration of new business transactions or reorganizations into TransAlta's financial systems

Provide support to the Sr. Manager in the discharging of due diligence in possible system changes resulting from reorganizational activity

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and optimize financial processes.

Provide end-user support and training on financial systems and tools when issues arise

Ensure data integrity and accuracy in financial systems

Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in financial systems

Upholding high ethical standards in all accounting practices to ensure the credibility of TransAlta's financial information
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
-
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; and a professional accounting designation is required (i.e. CPA)

5-7 years of broad finance ERP support experience, preferably with SAP, and prior integration or conversion experience with new ERP or reorganizations

Demonstrated progressive responsibility in a supervisory or team lead role, with the ability to lead meetings and a history of planning and executing successful projects

Minimum of 5 years of experience within a systems Center of Excellence or Systems Support Group with a focus on financial systems with extensive knowledge of all financial processes

Demonstrated understanding of Database structures and familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations

Strong knowledge of business processes in at least three financial business areas, and at least working knowledge of the remainder. GL, AP, AR, Treasury, Capital Assets, and Financial Reporting

Advanced Excel, data analysis, and familiarity with BI and workflows.

Excellent communication skills, with an ability to process information quickly and communicate in a clear and concise manner to internal and external stakeholders

A keen eye for detail to ensure errors are prevented, ensure compliance, and maintain the integrity of financial data

Ability to read and interpret agreements in the context of required processes
