Position Description

This position will supplement the Human Resources Department staff and offer work experience to the successful candidate.  Student Interns are employed on a temporary basis and are generally not eligible for some benefits; including holiday and vacation pay.  Scheduling of work hours and assignments should be made taking into consideration that Student Interns are students first and employees second.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Performs complex and confidential administrative functions in support of the Human Resources department including but not limited to: typing, filing, developing complex spreadsheet tracking reports and/or Power Point presentations. 
  • Coordinate interviews and other recruiting tasks, scheduling meetings, conferences and seminars; and working on special projects.
  • Tracks and processes purchase orders for vendors and contractors to release for payment.
  • Maintain appropriate levels and monitor office supplies, equipment and other materials
  • Sorts and distributes the department's mail.
  • Ensures customers, vendors and employees are handled in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must possess functional knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, including Excel spreadsheets, word processing, Power Point, relational database (PeopleSoft preferred) and presentation software.  Ability to collect, compile and analyze statistical information and data and interpret and apply laws and policies.
  • Independent judgment and initiative are required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines. 
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy and a willingness to function in a solution oriented capacity.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Management/Administration or related field with a graduation date no earlier than May 2019.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 15 - 20 hours per week during regular business hours; and 20 - 40 hours a week during the summer and school breaks.
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Student Interns must maintain the required hours for full-time student status, good academic standing at their college or university, as defined by the college or university and the GPA required for graduation by their college or university.
  • Failure to maintain full-time status, good academic standing and/or the requisite GPA will result in Student Interns being deemed ineligible for participation in this program.
