Overview
The Junior Estimator is responsible for determining project costs, timelines, and projected revenue by taking into account factors such as labour, material, equipment rental, and facility costs.
Responsibilities
- Implement cost estimating methodologies for each cost element / WBS and estimate the man hours, material costs, and other project costs
- Evaluate the costs estimated; includes the application of alternative pricing if required.
- Solicit and analyze quotations from various disciplines of subcontractors and other service suppliers, in coordination with procurement department.
- Support managers in creating new proposals.
- Perform other estimating / cost engineering responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Engineer in training (E.I.T.) or Construction Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
- Consideration given to ticketed pipefitters or welders who would like to start a career in an office environment.
Experience:
- 1 - 3 years working experience in estimating position would be preferred. Equivalent education would be considered in place of experience.
- Direct experience estimating process plants, petrochemical, or refinery EPC type projects would be considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Accuracy is paramount. Inaccurate estimating can cause a bid (proposal) loss or a project money loss on a job that was not accurately estimated.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to read blueprint / isometric drawings and details in order to perform estimate take-offs.
- Assertiveness and self-assurance in presenting and supporting conclusions.
- Strong ommunications and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work under pressure and stress, especially when facing bid deadlines.
- Proficient computer skills.
