About T&D:

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview:

The Sr. Construction Project Manager is responsible for all construction management related tasks associated with the South East division.  This includes all substation projects within this service area including new greenfield projects, load growth projects, infrastructure replacement projects, and customer interconnect projects amongst various others. This position will be responsible for managing the planning and execution phases of various substation projects through the project teams in order to meet the expected project goals including operational goals and financial goals.   The Sr. Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing a staff consisting of several construction project managers (MPP1's).

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Long term planning/coordination for new substation projects; includes construction scheduling, input to the licensing process, coordination with engineering for deliverables, long lead major substation equipment deliveries, and coordination with system planning relative to outage windows when equipment may be commissioned.
  • Develop contracting strategies that provide the company/project specific value while meeting the overall operating unit goals. 
  • Provide construction/contract management oversight to all projects to ensure individual projects are meeting milestone commitments, and being managed in accordance with contract documents and Substation Construction & Maintenance (SC&M) procedures.
  • Oversight to team of schedulers and cost engineers responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules and construction budgets/cost reports.
  • Be a member of the Substation Construction Project Management team along with other key team members; such as engineering, transmission, environmental, health & safety, supply chain etc. 
  • Responsible for overall substation status and implementation.
  • Responsible for developing a team to support the project requirements, including individual project managers, construction planners, construction site representatives and QA/QC support.
  • Responsible for overall substation project safety, including assuring the contractors are working to their prescribed programs. 
  • Demonstrate company values through decisions and actions. 
  • Create and maintains a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Managing a staff of 4-6 construction project managers, including performance evaluations, talent planning, coaching, recognition and professional development.
  • Responsible for developing goals and long term strategic objectives for direct reports.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of five or more years of substation construction experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Must have a minimum of six years or more years of experience in organizational program management, contract management, and/or project management.
  • Must have a minimum of three or more years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.   
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management or combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience of initial long term strategic planning, construction, and contracting strategy to oversight of schedule development, daily construction activities, contract management, coordination, decision making with the maintenance, test and operating organizations. 
  • Demonstrated experience providing direction to the contractors involved in the work, making change order decisions, and coordination with procurement.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
