About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

This position will be in the Civil/Construction Support division within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division. The successful candidate will report to the Underground Construction Supervisor for tract/developer inspections and will support the Valencia/North Coast Region.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Performing on-site inspections of new residential tract and developer substructure installations
  • Verifying compliance with Edison standards, applicable construction requirements, industry standards and local governing agency standards
  • Measuring and recording the location of Edison facilities, accounting for deviations, creating as-built drawings and communicating status of construction and inspection activities as required.
  • Utilizing database systems to access and input information.
  • Recognizing dangerous conditions and working in a safe manner that is in compliance with the Edison Accident Prevention Manual.
  • Working with confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Driving frequently within the Edison territories.
  • Performing other underground inspection duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two or more years' of experience performing surveillance and inspections, or civil construction, or civil engineering, or civil drafting.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.   

Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years performing surveillance and inspections in the civil construction field.
  • Two or more years of basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Two or more years of experience with SAP, AutoCad, and Autodesk Review.  
  • Two or more years of experience with utility underground construction practices, specifications and requirements, including the Underground Structures (UGS) Manual, GO128 and related industry standards. The UGS Manual is available to the general public and can be downloaded from our website.  
  • Two or more years of experience reading and understanding work order drawings, surveys and utility substructure maps.
  • Two or more years of experience managing multiple tasks with conflicting schedules and limited time lines. 
  • One or more years of experience drawing as-built maps.
  • Two or more years of experience giving functional direction to contractor and support personnel. 
  • Ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Two or more years of experience working with confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Must be able to motivate one-self and others to overcome obstacles and set and achieve goals.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Must be able to drive within the Edison territories.
  • Must be willing to work overtime on an as needed basis.
  • Must be able to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Three or more years of experience integrating work across relevant areas, developing the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, managing risks appropriately, developing and executing business plans, managing information, and providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Two or more years of experience with effective resource and project planning, decision-making, team-building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations.
  • Must have strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Two or more years of Project Management experience is a big plus. 

Comments

  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • The selected candidate will be required to travel to other Edison locations within assigned district. Up to 75% travel in company vehicle.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
