Position overview

SCE IT is responsible for the information technology necessary to build, operate and maintain the electrical system and deliver power to over 5 million of SCE's customers. This comprises maintenance and improvement of the technologies supporting all functions at SCE, including but not limited to communicating with our customers and each other, sustaining a reliable modern electricity grid, keeping our employees and communities safe, and enabling the successful strategies of all our operating units in their quest to better serve our ratepayers.  The need for optimized, efficient operations, solution delivery, and business planning functions within IT are increasingly a priority. IT has been relying more and more on its ability to forecast work, resource and financial needs as well as to govern these activities. This is vital for the successful achievement of the strategies and goals of SCE.

The Senior Advisor in the IT Strategy, Governance & Performance group will be responsible for leading and participating in large scale projects and guiding the analysts in their respective organization to:

  • Develop the business strategy within the Information Technology operating unit, as well as long term business and operating plans which support the achievement of the strategy.
  • Develop, maintain, and mature a comprehensive IT integrated roadmap framework which aligns all aspects of IT strategy, standards, planning, and costs to each other and to supporting desired business outcomes. 
  • Lead implementation of risk-informed planning and prioritization methodologies to risk score potential mitigations (project, programs, etc.) to guide decision making within the Organization.
  • Identify what critical information needs to be compiled, tracked, and reported on.         
  • Analyze historical work, cost, and resource needs data to identify trends, and bottlenecks.
  • This position will not have any direct reports (this is an individual contributor position).  

Typical Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and mature a comprehensive IT integrated roadmap framework which aligns all aspects of IT strategy, planning, operations, delivery, resourcing, standards and costs to technology & application life cycles and ensure the output supports desired business outcomes.
  • Responsible for the Investment Planning process within our operating model with the goal of reconciling Business and IT strategy and translating into an IT Strategic Plan and IT Investment Plan to support desired business outcomes.  Assist in building IT operating plan and budget to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives/objectives.
  • Develop and implement IT business strategy to deliver on the vision and direction of the CIO and leadership team. Includes all plans, processes, scorecards, metrics, and communications to meet all IT operational and service objectives and operating unit goals.
  • Collaboration with IT Leadership, Service Providers and PMO to determine IT initiatives to fill identified strategy gaps, mature business capabilities, and address improvements with process, people, technology, or services.  Ensure operational demand is aligned with annual investment plans & IT strategy.
  • Provide IT senior management with information on the financial and operational impacts of existing and proposed, business, investment & funding strategies.  Includes development of meeting materials and presentations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree. 
  • Must have Six years or more years of experience in strategic consulting or in a role developing and implementing strategy for an organization.
  • Must have five years or more years of experience either as an architect (enterprise, business, application, information or technology) or in using architecture frameworks and methodologies to develop and implement business plans, strategies and roadmaps. 

Desired qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business or Financial Strategy, Business Administration, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics or Engineering.
  • Seven or more years of experience either as an architect (enterprise, business, application, information or technology) or in using architecture frameworks and methodologies to develop and implement business plans, strategies and roadmaps.
  • Five or more years of supervisory or project management experience
  • Seven or more years of information technology experience, including developing multiple types of roadmaps for operational use.
  • Seven or more years of experience working with ITIL, ITSM, COBIT, BPM, or similar business process/service methodologies.
  • Seven or more years of combined experience that includes analyzing portfolios of work and determining how to prioritize and sequence the work to support business outcomes, performing statistical analyses, developing and applying quantitative models to support business decision making, performing primary and secondary research, analyzing complex data, performing scenario analyses, developing recommendations, presenting results to senior management, developing project work plans, and leading project teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including vlookups, pivot tables and graphs.
