Description
The Resource Planning Manager is responsible for the following:

  • Managing the long term resource planning process for the department
  • Working with numerous departments across the company that provides input into the plan, such as Electric Transmission Planning, Fuel and Power Procurement, Customer Programs and Rates.
  • Oversee the development of the 10 year electric resource plan submittal to the CPUC and file related material with the CEC.
  • Providing testimony at both the CPUC and CEC, as well as be able to present to other state and local agencies.
  • Managing the resource planning staff including, hiring and promoting subordinate employees; train subordinates; assign, direct and review their work; and comply with company affirmative action programs to achieve equal employment opportunity objectives.
  • Managing the resource planning process of SDG&E's long term electric resource needs. Build and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders (CAISO, CPUC, CEC and neighboring utilities) and internal stakeholders (Transmission planning, Fuel and Power Procurement, Load Forecasting, Regulatory Affairs, Government, etc.).
  • Managing the technical studies supporting the long term resource plan, the annual Energy and Resource Cost (ERRA) filing, and filing as the CEC. This includes development of study plans, allocation of planning resources, reviewing the results for technical accuracy, and compiling reports and recommendations for senior management.
  • Developing and support the evaluation of resources options to meet long term resource needs.
  • Providing day to day supervision, coaching, training and development for direct reports (varying levels of Engineers, Economists, financial analysis, and other professionals.)
  • Supporting legislative efforts by reviewing propose legislate and providing senior management with concerns and potential modification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

External Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, accounting or economics or equivalent relevant utility experience. Minimum 10 years of professional, relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the CAISO transmission process, the CPUC long term planning process, economic and/or financial analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to understand complex technical issues, proposes and implements solutions, and anticipates the consequences of such solutions across all company operations.
  • Must possess the ability to review problems and propose innovative solutions, which involve technical, operational and economic issues, and may link new concepts and technologies.
  • Must possess ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.
  • Must clearly and concisely communicate technical information and concepts with various levels of management in both formal and informal settings.
  • Must be able to prepare written communications on technical and non-technical matters for various levels of management and external parties.
  • Must have good computer proficiency and knowledge of spreadsheets and database analysis tools.
  • Must be able to work effectively with technical staff, technical experts, and stakeholders. Ability to manage workload. Ability to perform both detailed numerical analysis and assess overall policy implications of actions.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills and be able to manage senior technical personnel and outside consultants performing highly complex technical studies.
