Position Summary

This senior level position will influence design decisions by providing automation, control design and support for in-house product development and process improvement, as well as being the key touch point for outsourced projects.  The engineer will direct the design, implementation, production of systems controls, sensing and instrumentations that meet specified criteria for performance quality and cost.

10 years of engineering experience required - Electrical Engineering or Control Systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, document, produce controls and monitoring systems, data logging and sensing applications, programming PLC based automation devices and build Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
  • Lead cross-functional teams to design, implement and commission the controls areas of significant capital projects.
  • Develop cost estimates and manage spending to meet the target for the controls needs of each project.
  • Monitor and ensure achievement of goals, objectives and timelines for the project controls area.
  • Work with the sourcing department to write equipment specifications, obtain suppliers' competitive quotes, purchase and expedite equipment orders for capital projects.
  • Recommend and implement improvements or modifications in sequence of operations and equipment utilization. 
  • Prepare detailed drawings and schematics, including related electrical drawings.
  • Evaluate new products through designed experiments, testing, statistical problem solving and analysis.
  • Share knowledge, support and train other engineers in designing and building control systems.
  • Build relationships with and utilize outside vendors to create prototypes, develop circuit mockups and manufacture and commission electrical control panels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Automation, Instrumentation, Controls or Electrical Engineering with a Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 years of controls engineering experience, including automation controls, programming PLC systems and HMI interfaces, as well as measurement and logging.
  • Ability to plan and conduct performance tests on electrical, electromechanical and experimental products, controls and systems.
  •  Knowledge of methods surrounding design and build of digital circuits, programming PLC's, powering and communicating with controls systems, bus technologies, HMI monitor devices and sensor technologies.
  • Experience performing controls functions for capital projects.
  • Experience reading, analyzing and interpreting common scientific and technical journals.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to top management.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Experience with SQL databases, preferred.
