Provides Occupational Health and first aid case management services at assigned Duke Energy locations. Services include assessing, planning, and delivering first aid care to all employees in a timely fashion, with a focus on the prevention of escalation to OSHA recordable incidents. Knowledgeable of HIPAA requirements and handles confidential medical information appropriately. Excellent people skills and high level of attention to detail. Services also include completing required recordkeeping, actively participating in safety meetings throughout areas of support, educating employees on health related topics, and establishing healthy working relationships with employees and site management. Nurse will perform workstation ergonomic evaluations. Writing/presentation skills necessary for nurse to communicate effectively and deliver results. Nurse will travel as needed to assess employees in area of support, with possibility of traveling overnight to support emergency deployments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate health education

    • Provide education to employees by writing health related articles for the company, and creating PowerPoint presentations

    • Actively participate in safety meetings throughout areas of support

    • Performing hands-on ergonomic evaluations for employees

    • Supporting corporate Quick Fit stretching program

    • Establish healthy working relationships with employees/site management

  • Medical documentation

    • Appropriately document all work related and non-work related events in nursing log

    • Maintain organization to ensure case management protocols are followed

    • Keep confidentiality of employee health records in compliance with State and Federal law, including HIPAA

  • First aid and case management

    • Assess all work related injuries and illnesses to ensure the best treatment is given

    • Assess, plan, and deliver first-aid care to all employees in a timely fashion, with a focus on the prevention of escalation to OSHA recordable incidents

    • Alert site management and safety of all work-related events, and provide update to stakeholders per case management protocols

    • Provide first aid for injuries and illnesses during normal working hours, and on-call afterhours

  • Travel as needed to assess employees

    • Willing to travel overnight to support emergency deployments (storm duty) if needed

    • Provide medical support for special events, training, etc

    • Actively participate in safety meetings, trainings, meetings, etc

  • Health & Wellness issues and EAP referrals

    • Serve as resource to employees for personal health issues and concerns

    • Refer employees to external health and medical agencies for consultation and information regarding specific medical conditions

    • Discuss medical, health and wellness issues as needed, making appropriate medical and EAP referrals when necessary 

Working Conditions:

  • Basic function is performed in a medical office

  • Emergency work may be performed during outage or storm deployment

  • Interstate highway  travel to remote sites to provide first aid case management

  • Normal physical effort to conduct nurse assessments and medical testing (Nuclear specific)

  • Day shift is primary schedule but there are emergency call-out duty for back-shift and weekends and outage response

Qualifications

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of ADN, diploma, or BSN school of nursing

  • Five years of work experience as Occupational Health Nurse or five years hospital experience

  • Requires valid Registered Nurse license in state of practice

  • Basic Life Support (CPR) 

Desired Qualifications:

  • BSN

  • Knowledgeable of OSHA requirements with ability to make sound medical decisions in each area

  • Hospital nursing experience

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)

  • Experienced in use of computers, email, MS Word, MS Excel, and Occupational Health data programs
