About the Opportunity

Major Functions of this role:

Project Management

  • Coordinate multiple technical projects and follow up with project managers on a regular basis to ensure they are on track and able to obtain the resources to effectively and efficiently complete projects
  • Assist management in various projects, studies, and standards development
  • As necessary, take the lead on Shermco projects; develop project plans including the scheduling of staff, equipment and additional resources

Technical Services Management

  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and hands-on training to technical staff
  • Ensure resources, including technical staff and equipment, are effectively scheduled to maintain high utilization rates
  • Ensure staff receive all technical and safety training required
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to individual direct reports and assist staff in developing their career path and development goals
  • Review project costs and revenues with other technical staff and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Review monthly financial statements and advise managers on variances or discrepancies
  • Promote an inclusive, positive, team-oriented, and respectful work environment and implement an "open door policy" to allow staff to bring concerns forward in a productive manner
  • Assist staff in finding solutions to technical issues, project management concerns, and safety requirements
  • Work with administrative staff to ensure administrative processes, including timesheet, purchasing, and invoice processing, are effectively handled to allow prompt and accurate billing
  • Directly responsible for ensuring the Technical Services team assists in meeting the overall operational goals for the North SK Operations Group

Business Development

  • Contribute to sales and marketing efforts through up-selling, quotation submission, and generating additional business development opportunities
  • Be available to answer client questions on technical related questions
  • Assist with the preparation of technical and project sale quotes
  • Foster positive and productive business relationships with representatives of major clients and develop new client relationships and opportunities

Qualifications:

  • A diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Designation
  • Several years' experience in industrial and utility electrical maintenance and commissioning as well experience in managing and leading technical staff
  • A valid driver's license is required as travel is necessary and field work is a requirement of the position
