Description:

Under the direction and leadership of the Manager, Disability Programs, we are seeking an Advisor, Disability Management to join our Disability Management department in Edmonton, Alberta. The Advisor, Disability Management is responsible for ensuring that all programs are carried out accurately and efficiently while partnering with our HR peers.  This position will play a key role in all aspect of disability management, workplace accommodations, workplace injuries, attendance management and related processes in the alcohol & drug policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate timely and effective return to work plans for short-term and long-term disability claims, working collaboratively with our employees, HR, operations, and the disability benefits administrators, unions and associations 
  • Ensure the success of the return to work process by confirming medical work restrictions, determining appropriate modified duties while complying with relevant legislation
  • Responsible to effectively manage workplace injury processes and provide guidance and support to both managers and employees. Work collaboratively with management and Health and Safety to strategically manage workplace injury claims and associated costs
  • Effectively communicate with all interested parties in a professional manner while maintaining confidentiality
  • Contribute to disability management process/policy improvements
  • Build strong working relationships with employees, leadership, and associations/unions
  • Confirm the medical need for accommodation requests and ensure compliance with Human Rights Legislation 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Sociology, Psychology, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in disability case management with WCB, STD/LTD, Alcohol & Drug Policy, Attendance Management, etc.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced knowledge of legislation such as Workers Compensation, Human Rights legislation, and privacy legislation.
  • Effective communication abilities both written and verbal and proven negotiation/conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of short/long term disability benefit program administration
  • Possess a strong customer service focus along with an ability to build credible business relationships and ability to reach an agreement on a course of action
  • Experience working within a unionized environment
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, plan, and multi-task effectively
  • Prior experience with pre-employment medicals would be an asset
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
