Job Description/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to resolve employee and customer conflicts, problem-solve and lead / motivate team members in an increasingly competitive business environment, while encouraging employee engagement.

  • He/she will be a safety leader and promoter of safe work behaviors.
  • Lead and provide technical expertise to Customer Field Solutions Appliance Service Technicians.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and direct work to establish work plans and objectives.
  • Work with various employee groups (Management, union and other salaried employees).
  • The successful candidate must be willing to participate in an on-call working rotation to provide leadership coverage after hours, weekends and on holidays as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Technical knowledge in Gas transmission, distribution, and metering or Gas compression and storage gained either through a technical field of study and/or through related work experience. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain operator qualifications per the DOT/Pipeline Safety regulations.

The following experience / skills will set you apart from others:

  • Management / supervisory experience.
  • HVAC experience or servicing home appliances experience.
  • State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor License.
  • EPA Refrigerant Certification.
  • An Associates or Bachelor's degree in HVAC Technology or similar field.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of Gas distribution systems, customer Gas services, buildings and grounds or utility support areas.  Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress.  Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required.  Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.  Implements preventative maintenance programs.  Regular attendance is expected.

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or specific field locations.  Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual should be willing to participate in the on-call rotation in case of potential storms. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays.  Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the customer, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Individual must have a valid driver's license.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the field site is often loud.

Position will be filled at the appropriate salary grade based upon the skills, knowledge, and experience of the selected candidate.
