 Job Description/Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and efficient planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities related to substation and transmission line construction projects. The Construction Engineer:

  1. Participates as a member of project teams to develop project scope, project cost estimate, project schedule.
  2. Develops detailed construction plans and identifies outage requirements to implement new facilities.
  3. Responsible for monitoring and routine reporting on project construction schedule and cost.
  4. Perform constructability reviews of internal and external design packages.
  5. Develops construction contract bid packages; reviews responses and participates in vendor selection.
  6. Perform quality assurance checks during construction.
  7. Responsible for closeout of construction contracts and as-built documentation.
  8. Identifies and addresses all project safety hazards and environmental concerns.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This professional level performs routine engineering and construction management work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out engineering tasks. Limited judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections or adaptations of alternatives. Assignments are of low to moderate complexity, but may include work that is typical of a higher level. Supervision screens assignments, selects techniques and procedures. Receives limited supervision and oversight of work. Candidate shall have some relevant experience in construction management with a basic understanding of construction industry standards and relevant state and federal codes as related to electric utility construction. Candidate must be able to contribute effectively in a matrix environment as key member of project teams.

The Construction Engineer:

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Disciplines) or Construction Management.
  • Requires two (2) to four (4) years professional experience with employment in engineering or construction work is required.
  • Must have superior interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Requires a proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of MS Office suite of products (especially MS Word and MS Excel).

Working Conditions:

  • Work is conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) and requires occasional travel to off-site work locations.
  • Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or construction atmosphere;
  • Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
  • Working plant, construction, and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
  • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
  • May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds;
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;
  • Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
