Description

As a specialist, this position requires specific knowledge and experience within a unique industry to ensure asset integrity by applying corrosion prevention strategies to above and below grade facilities through a combination of office and field work.  The candidate shall have detailed knowledge of corrosion theory, principles of electricity, cathodic protection design, installation, commissioning, testing and performance evaluation including systems affected by interfering conditions.  This position is responsible for technical reviews of corrosion prevention designs and integrity assessment reports provided by the Company or third party. This position is also responsible for project management as it relates to the development, execution, and financial reporting of capital or maintenance projects within the work unit.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Support leadership, mentoring and coaching for the Corrosion Prevention Team.
  • Ensure corrosion prevention reports follow established analytical processes and meet quality assurance requirements.
  • Develop technically supported and transparently defendable monitoring and mitigation plans to manage the corrosion threat on the LP system.
  • Support ongoing development and implementation of corrosion related analysis and trending processes.
  • Assist in the strategic development and implementation of innovative technical practices and technologies.
  • Ensure corrosion control records are documented and maintained according to Enbridge and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support regulatory audits with subject matter expertise
  • Develop, maintain, and improve cathodic protection, casing and AC management programs through implementation of best practices.
  • Establish and maintain contractual relationships with 3rd party corrosion service providers.
  • Manage corrosion prevention data in the applicable databases and generate reports as required.
  • Evaluate the corrosion prevention data in accordance with company standards & and recommended practices.
  • Evaluate new technology within the corrosion prevention industry.
  • Ensure compliance with Enbridge Operator Qualification Plan as it applies to corrosion prevention covered tasks.
  • Provide corrosion prevention project development and execution support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders by:
    • Ensuring projects meet related company & industry standards and recommended practices,
    • Providing technical reviews on corrosion prevention design philosophy, material selection, construction practices, and documentation,
    • Providing technical assistance to other departments,
  • Coordinate the design, installation, maintenance, repair, documentation, and regulatory compliance of the following corrosion prevention systems:
    • Cathodic protection
    • Mitigation of AC and DC interference
  • Administer applicable Operations and Maintenance Manual (OMM) preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Support annual and long-range budgetary forecasting
  • Review proposals and award tenders for corrosion survey and maintenance programs.
  • Participate in peer review of related company standards and procedures.
  • Represent the company at company sponsored industry functions.
  • Manage miscellaneous system improvement projects as required.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or applied science diploma or equivalent experience
  • NACE certified CP III or higher
  • Minimum NACE Level II CIP coating inspector or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of oil and/or gas pipeline industry related experience
  • Completion of other relevant courses related to corrosion management and prevention Understanding and comprehension of:
    • AER Pipeline Act (Alberta)
    • CSA 22.1 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I - Safety Standard for Electrical Installations
    • SOR/99-294 Onshore Pipeline Regulations
  • Self-guiding and capable of working independently
  • Computer literate with MS Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates commitment to a safety culture
  • Valid passport

Preferred:

  • Project management and budgeting experience
  • Analytical approach to technical reviews and troubleshooting
