Our Utilities division develops customized water, wastewater and energy systems and provides field metering services for clients across North America. Our clients include municipalities, resort properties, gas, water and electric utilities, developers and institutions.

About the Job:

Corix Utilities Inc. has an immediate opening for a regular full-time Lead Maintenance Operator - Distribution/Collection based in the BC Interior region.  This role is responsible for the maintenance and operations of Water and Wastewater Utilities in the assigned region, as well as for managing the budgets for capital upgrades to facilities owned or managed by Corix Utilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies key equipment risks, mitigating risks by repairing, replacing or servicing the equipment;
  • Completes all assigned work orders for facilities, and submits monthly reports;
  • Performs pump and water/sewer line repair, rebuild, and maintenance to regulatory and Corix policy standard
  • Inspects, service and repair fire hydrants, watermain valves and fire department connections in accordance with prescribed standards;
  • Performs leak detection utilizing acoustic loggers, microphones and/or correlators;
  • Flushing and testing of fire hydrants, watermains and sanitary sewer systems;
  • Ensures maintenance activities enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of equipment, performing maintenance and repairs or scheduling and overseeing work performed by contractors to ensure equipment is maintained to industry standard or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations;
  • Monitors project budgets for capital upgrades to assigned facilities, notifying the Operations Manager of potential issues and working with the Operations Manager to determine the best course of action;
  • Ensures all work areas and facilities are in compliance with Corix safety and cleanliness standards, executing recommendations from Governance Audit reports and performing housekeeping as required;
  • Assists Operators with utility operations when required;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma;
  • 7 years related experience;
  • Water Distribution Level 2 and Wastewater Collection Level 2, or relevant Red Seal trade certification;
  • Field experience in electrical or mechanical trades an asset;
  • Knowledge of performing regular inspections of the water distribution and sewer collection system, locating and inspecting manholes and related appurtenances, and facilitating repairs as required an asset;
  • After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required;
  • Weekend scheduling may be required;
  • Good mechanical aptitude;
  • Valid driver's license; must be able to provide driver's abstract;
  • Training in various areas, including confined space operations will be provided;
  • Ability to maintain logs as required using MS Word and MS Excel and to communicate via email using MS Outlook.

Working Conditions:

Work in plant and field environments; some exposure to wastewater, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise; heavy lifting/moving, standing, climbing. May work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather conditions. Will participate in on call and scheduled overtime rotation
