Description
The Flexible Fuel Fab Operator will set-up and operate a variety of production equipment in a commercial nuclear fuel fabrication operation. You will have ownership of compliance, safety, quality, and production in performance of position responsibilities, and be committed to excellence in all aspects of work as well as participate in team meetings and work activities using structured team processes for problem solving and continuous improvement of operations.

  • Work is performed in controlled access areas and require satisfactory completion of Special Nuclear Material training
  • Specific job functions include ceramic pellet grinding and pressing, loading of ceramic pellets into tubing, material movement and tracking, and basic equipment setup, maintenance and cleanup
  • 2nd Shift (3:00PM - 11:00PM) and 3rd Shift (11:00PM - 7:00 AM) Assignments to be assigned and determined
  • Starting rate $16.85/Hour (Progressing to $19.445/Hour in 10months)

As the Flexible Fuel Fabrication Operator, you will:

  • Set-up and operate a variety of production equipment in a nuclear fuel fabrication operation
  • Operate complex press, grind, mill, slug, roll tumble, lathe, gadolinia dry scrap recycle (GDSR), blending and granulating machinery
  • Accumulate segregated scrap in proper containers for transfer to appropriate reprocessing operations
  • Be responsible for moving various product containers to a variety of process stations and/or storage locations
  • Operate motorized fork trucks, side-loaders, hand trucks, and overhead cranes
  • Perform basic setups, changeovers, and perform minor adjustments to maintain machine tolerances
  • Perform part traceability record keeping, measurement of parts, and packaging produced in the hardware preparation area
  • Check and monitor quality and output using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, indicators, optical comparator, profilometer, and pin gages
  • Be responsible for continuous adherence to all areas of personal, nuclear, and criticality safety regulations and requirements
  • Be accountable for complete accuracy in data input to material inventory control system
  • Maintain records, process control charts, and other documentation as required
  • Interpret operating procedures, temporary operating procedures, and production notices and assure that quality and process instructions are followed
  • Perform duties and tasks related to all safety regulations and procedures and that are necessary to keep facilities, materials, and work area clean and orderly
  • Activities will generally be part of team effort
  • Be responsible for supporting other area operators working same or dependent process
  • Assist in training of personnel new to area / position
  • Achieve qualification / certification on level elements as specified in operating and quality documents
  • Be required to train and certify on at least one process / product inspection disciplines within 12 weeks
Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a maintenance, manufacturing or production operation, nuclear facility, or equivalent military experience (OR Associate's Degree in associated field (for example, Computer Integrating Machining, Electrical / Electronics Technology, Mechatronics, etc.))

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen
  • Willingness to work in a tobacco-free environment
  • Must complete an assessment, including math, reading, the ability to follow detailed instructions and other basic competencies, as part of the selection process
  • Corrected 20/20 vision and color distinction required to complete Quality Control (QC) vision test
  • Must pass nuclear safety, industrial, and environmental training test, respiratory protection requirements, and QC measurement test
  • Must be able to frequently lift heavy trays up to 50 pounds from ground to head level and must be able to push/pull up material handling carts with a required force up to 50 lbs*
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods*
  • Some climbing (including platform ladders of up to 14 ft.), bending, squatting and stooping required
  • Willing to wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, safety shoes, protective clothing and a half and/or full face respirator mask*
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Must be able to read and comprehend operating, quality and regulatory requirements
  • Must be able to use computers
  • Willing to work overtime, including weekend shifts*

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior GE Wilmington Fuel Manufacturing Operation work experience (GE Employees Only)
  • Prior chemical manufacturing process work experience
  • Prior nuclear plant operator work experience
  • Prior machining, maintenance or welding work experience
  • Experience in use of micrometers and dial indicators
  • Basic keyboarding skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
