Corix has an immediate opening for Meter Reader for our project located in Gwinnet County, GA. This position is responsible for reading water and electric meters and record volume used by residential and commercial consumers to ensure accurate consumption and billing. Reads up to 370 meters daily.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for reading water meters and record volume used by residential and commercial consumers to ensure accurate consumption and billing. Reads routes containing between 200 -1,000 meters as assigned. Performs service orders as needed.

  • Reports to starting location at beginning of shift to receive route information, and hand held device. May receive vehicle keys. Organizes route maps/plans route, fills out time sheets and other paperwork if necessary.
  • Drives personal or company vehicle to first residence/business on route; uses map to locate site if necessary and verifies address using hand held device.
  • Walks along the route to each customer site. Route length varies and can be approximately 20-40 miles. Drives and walks route.
  • Locates meter and determines if it is accessible/poses safety hazards. If meter is in the building, gets permission from occupant to enter (there must be an adult occupant, 18 years of age or older in order for reader to enter). Some meters are located in vaults. Checks hand held device to verify meter number to see if there are any notes about site (i.e., location of meter, obstacles, dogs)
  • If customer has questions about services, answers questions or directs them to customer service.
  • Reads numeric data indicated on the meter and records into hand held device. If water meter, secures water meter lid properly.
  • Inspects meter and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized use if required per contract. Enters information into hand held device.
  • Performs service orders as needed such as taking last/final reading when residents move in or move out; transfer orders or meter box lid replacements
  • Maintains and secures company equipment and confidential information.
  • At end of shift, reports to Supervisor and enters into hand held device any problem such as meter irregularities, damaged equipment, or impediments to meter access, including dogs. Returns hand held device.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass Meter-Pro test

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to detail and accuracy to record meter data
  • Ability to read, write, and follow and complete written instructions. 
  • Ability to find locations/address by reading a map and hand held device. 
  • Ability to key data into hand held device. Basic computer skills helpful. . 
  • Ability to communicate and interact with customers in a professional manner. 
  • Ability to walk route, which includes stairs and unpaved/rough terrain areas, of up to 10-15 miles each day

Work Context/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

This position requires working outdoors in all-weather environments including rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat. Requires travel by car; may be exposed to road related hazards. Can requires walking up to 10- 15 miles daily which includes walking at a brisk pace, climbing stairs and walking on unpaved/rough terrain areas. 
Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted, walking, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, and bending; getting in and out of vehicle. Exposed to unknown hazards at resident sites such as dogs. Must use safety equipment as assigned.
