Summary:

This position is responsible for the reliable and safe operation of CenterPoint Energy’s fleet and equipment within the company’s service area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets performance expectations, including customer service and holds employees accountable for individual performance.
  • Coordinates daily activities of assigned personnel, including prioritizes, schedules and assigns work to achieve business goals.
  • Assesses performance by monitoring work progress in person to ensure correct procedures are followed consistently.
  • Manages repair facilities and personnel to assure work is coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
  • Researches issues and facilitate work orders, which may include securing access, obtaining permits, verifying security clearances, etc.
  • Coordinates between CenterPoint Energy (CNP) organizations and vendors to assure timely completion of work.
  • Assures the effective and efficient procurement, distribution and use of materials and maintains accurate records.
  • Monitors, maintains, and updates computerized work management records, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manages the budget, equipment, tools and instruments.
  • Schedules time and/or labor intense equipment out of service with internal clients when required.
  • Insures compliance with safety rules, Company policies and procedures, as well as job specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures effective tailboard meetings are conducted and documented and that safety meetings are held regularly and effectively.
  • Addresses unsafe practices or situations and takes appropriate action.
  • Safeguards fellow workers, the public and self in the course and scope of business by following safety rules set forth in the Company’s Accident Prevention Manual.
  • Ensures employee personnel files are maintained with performance documentation as appropriate.
  • Prepares and delivers, formal and/or informal oral and written communications to personnel.
  • Administers company policies, procedures and processes within work groups.
  • Represents the Company and organization on internal work teams and with external parties.

Requirements

Education:

Requires a minimum of two years of college in business administration, business management, economics, marketing, project management or a related field, from an accredited college or university.

In lieu of college experience, will consider five years of automotive/diesel management experience or a leadership role in the field.  This is in addition to the Experience requirement. 

Experience:

Requires a minimum of three years of experience with automotive/diesel management responsibilities or as an automotive and/or diesel technician.

  • Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of emergency response processes, construction, service and Operations and Maintenance manuals.
  • Able to follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by the company.

  • Able to respond well to changing priorities and react flexibly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to communicate orally in a clear manner and hear spoken communication in person or on equipment, such as the radio, mobile phone or landline telephone.
  • Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone, mobile phone or 2-way radio.
  • Able to operate office equipment, including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, mobile phone, etc.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit and view a laptop screen or computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, crawl, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, use fingers to reach, grasp and move items.
  • Able to see and distinguish between colors.
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Able to work in a field environment, which may include construction sites located away from paved roads, and may involve crossing through mud, debris, heavy foliage, creeks or pasture land. 

Working Conditions:

  • Able to work as assigned, with the work shift and location at the Company’s discretion.
  • Able to provide on-call support 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear and ear plugs as required
  • Able to work indoors, in an office environment and work outdoors in close proximity to rotating and energized equipment, or hazardous materials.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
  • Able to perform mutual assistance assignment outside of Company’s Houston service area.
  • Able to be a First Responder who will be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
