Description
Assist the department staff in planning, design, and construction of various transmission line projects. The co-op student engineer will work in the Power Delivery Department each semester rotation.
Essential Job Functions
- Gather field information as directed for use in the review, analysis, design, and maintenance of transmission facilities.
- Assists with electrical, structural and geotechnical calculations.
- Assists in collecting "as-built" construction information and update design models.
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and project schedules for the construction, modification, and maintenance of transmission lines.
- Assist in the analysis of various design and application problems, and prepares studies to obtain solutions.
- Assist in the development and preparation of engineering drawings.
- Assist in the development and preparation of design specifications and contract documents for equipment and material purchases and construction.
- Assist in the development and preparation of engineering studies.
- Assist in the review and evaluation of construction bids to ensure that proposed bidder meets requirements of the specifications and contract documents.
- Assists surveying group with data collection.
- Perform various computer assignments including:
- Create presentations, reports, documents, etc. using Microsoft Office applications;
- Enter information into databases;
- Research data for entry into databases
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate student who is an Electrical or Civil Engineering major and has completed a minimum of two (2) semesters of college level
- Minimum GPA: 2.50 (4.0=A)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
- Knowledge and skilled in the use of personal computer applications including Excel spreadsheets, and Microsoft Word processing.
- Valid Mississippi driver's license
- Must successfully complete a driver's license background check
