NOTE: This position can be located in Charlotte, NC or Greenville, SC

Job Summary: 

This is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in all areas related to company and customer electric metering. 
  • Ensures safe, accurate, reliable, and cost effective revenue metering for all rate class customer groups of the Company. This position requires professional interaction with both internal and external customers to accomplish objectives. Work performed requires the employee to learn all aspects of metering and telecommunications equipment, applications, and practices. 
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities. 
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. 
  • Conducts engineering and related studies. 
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. 
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. 
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. 
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. 
  • Evaluate long term performance of vendors for selection of new equipment, equipment repairs or refurbishment.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office work environment 
  • Field visits for observations and technical assistance 
  • Occasional off-system travel
Requirements

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. 
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience 
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. 
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Received a passing grade on the Professional Engineering Exam. 
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management. 
  • Experience in the utility industry. 
  • Experience with electric power metering, customer electric service requirements, equipment specifications, National Electric Code, vendor software such as that used with meters or programmable controllers, telecommunications equipment, and distribution/transmission power circuits. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills. 
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the company's service territory and facilities (substations, operations centers, etc.), as required. 
  • Strong personal computer (PC) skills. 
  • Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills.
