Position applies engineering knowledge to a broad variety of assignments related primarily to combined cycle power plant balance of plant equipment but will also include assignments for thermal/solar and conventional boiler power plants as well.  Successful candidate will be expected to devise and implement innovative and economically sound solutions to problems encountered. 

Successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide the fleet with sound economic and technical recommendations with respect to operations, new equipment specifications, emergency repairs, and best maintenance practices
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement countermeasures throughout the fleet
  • Provide economic analysis of new projects
  • Be willing to learn and develop subject matter expertise on other areas of team responsibility
  • Support various betterment projects as assigned  
  • Communicate 360o within the organization (plants, peers, and executives)
  • Be available to travel throughout the United States as well as other countries as needed.  Travel requirements can be as low as 0% and typically do not exceed 20% but this is subject to change based on the needs of the fleet and most but not all travel is during the work week.

  • Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following fields:
    • Welding
    • High energy piping (FAC, NDE, stress analysis, crack growth, creep, welding, failure analysis, grade 91, and pipe system design)
    • HRSG's (inspections, NDE, failure analysis, operations, welding, operational improvements, duct burners, and expansion joints)
    • Pressure vessels and tanks (inspections, NDE, failure analysis, operations, and welding)
    • Combined cycle plant maintenance of balance of plant equipment (pumps, HRSG's, valves, etc.)
    • Combined cycle plant operations
    • Valves (control valve and motor operated valve design, sizing, operations, and maintenance practices)
    • Oil and gas piping
    • API fuel storage tanks
    • Condensers (failure analysis, operations, repairs, welding, and operational improvements)
    • Heat exchangers (failure analysis, operations, repairs, welding, and operational improvements)
    • SCR's (maintenance, systems monitoring, upgrades, design, and sizing)
    • Performance/Systems engineering (ability to do detailed analysis and make recommendations on the performance and sizing of system components for various combined cycle power plant systems such as condensate, feedwater, etc.)

  • Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned 
Requirements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience at combined cycle power plants or an OEM of relevant equipment is highly desirable
