Position Specific Description

In this role you will report to the Director of Development and be primarily responsible for the development of utility scale wind and photovoltaic projects across in the Canadian markets. You will be responsible for early-stage origination and development; identifying market opportunities, secure land rights, identify transmission interconnection points to cultivate a pipeline of viable, competitive wind and solar projects, and support the negotiation of power purchase/sale agreements. You will be given the opportunity to work with the Development leadership team in order to drive the progression of new, existing, and acquired projects. The travel for this role will fluctuate, and you can expect to travel to various sites 40-60% of the time. You will report to the Toronto office. Experience dealing with permitting agencies, regulatory offices, and communities in the Alberta and Saskatchewan is an asset to this role. To do this job well, you must be a team player that can balance priorities and communicate effectively with the NextEra project development team, numerous internal subject matter experts, external consultants, and customers to successfully navigate the processes necessary to transition a project to construction. Job Overview
Employees in this role develop and execute plans for new and/or enhanced generation projects. This job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost effective and competitive manner. This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed timely and within budgetary constraints.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive result
- Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and/or financial negotiations
- Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
- Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting, and interconnection
- Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
- Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
- Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
- Fosters external relationships with customers, 3rd parties and/or members of the community
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
