Description
Steamfitter - pipefitters layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes in industrial production and processing systems per company Quality and Safety Programs. Steamfitter - pipefitters work both in/out door environments at physically demanding tasks that often require climbing.
Responsibilities:
- Follows all Safety protocol.
- Responsible for cutting, fitting, repairs of pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, stainless steel and other alloys along with the appropriate valves and fittings utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawings, arrangements and blue prints.
- Competency in Quality Control Program.
- Installation/ repair of flange type piping along with valves and fittings.
- Installation/ repair of piping in a field or facility environment.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the type of pipe and tools to use, and lay out the sequence of tasks to exact requirements.
- Make detailed sketches for pipe and equipment fabrication and installation, as required.
- Join pipe sections, related equipment and secure in position.
- Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Capable of reading a tape measure both standard and metric.
- Understand and have knowledge of fitting tools such as jacks, come-a-longs, chain falls, wrap around, levels, combination and framing squares and pipe scribes.
- Knowledge of hooking and rigging to include the proper ropes, slings and chokers.
- Ability to pass a tack welding assessment.
- Understand blueprint pipe symbols.
- Familiarity with various types of piping material to include, steel, galvanized, stainless steel and other alloys.
- Knowledge of the use of pipe beveling machines.
- Familiar with arrangement/ pipe drawings in order to facilitate weld joint preparation, along with valves and fittings on units or onboard vessels.
- Knowledge of the operation of pipe bending and threading machines.
- Physical strength and stamina required to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
- Mechanical aptitude.
Requirements
Education:
- Journeyman or Apprentice in Steamfitting - Pipefitting
Experience:
- Familiarity with the operation of various lift equipment such as forklift, cranes and aerial platforms
- Fit and install all pipe drawings material types and sizes along with valves and fittings on units or onboard vessel.
- Ability to trouble shoot piping problems.
- Fabricate piping systems from drawings in the field in addition to being able to read inverted arrangement drawings and perform piping installation/ repair inspections.
