This is the first level of the wind operations classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve problems, in technical areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
Maintenance of Wind Turbine Fleet
- Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
- Perform turbine pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
- Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
- Work as scheduled during the week and on call as required by manager
- Climb 300 ft. several times daily
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times
Compliance & Administrative Record Maintenance
- EH&S Documentation
- Complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary)
Additional Support for Fleet Wind Sites
- Willing to travel and assist other Duke Energy Generation Services wind facilities when needed.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a two year associates degree or technical school certificate
- Combination of education and experience and 1-2 years of directly related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree/technical certificate
- 0-1 years directly related work experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position; ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year.
Desired Qualifications
- More than 1 year experience with wind turbines
- Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technology
- High voltage and sub station maintenance experience
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
- Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
