Position Summary

Maintains Cooperative Energy system modeling data, develops and updates system models in support of various modeling processes, performs near-term and long-term studies for planning of bulk transmission and interconnected systems, and participates in various NERC, SERC, and MISO actives or committees.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collects modeling data from area utilities and coordinates into a combined system model appropriate for Operations transmission and generation planning studies.
  • Provides and updates modeling data for the Cooperative Energy transmission system as required by neighboring utilities and the Reliability Coordinator.
  • Provides and updates Cooperative Energy system data in support of MISO system studies and processes and NERC and SERC compliance requirements.
  • Maintains and generates data for the load flow programs; includes calculations of transmission line impedances from given physical characteristics and calculation of appropriate models for transformers using available test report data.
  • Coordinates preparation of load forecasts and power requirement studies.
  • Develops short-term operational studies in coordination with neighboring utilities to evaluate interconnection operations, transfers, and contingencies.
  • Recommends, develops, implements and documents automated computer programs, and other advanced analysis methods, to allow for comprehensive monitoring of operational performance of the transmission system and detection of transmission system problems.
  • Prepares government-required reports and industry surveys related to system planning.
  • Participates as required in various NERC, SERC, and MISO activities or committees.
  • Generates and maintains data as required for other engineering-related studies.
  • Remains familiar with interconnection/interchange agreements and contracts between Association and other utilities, and knowledgeable of the influence of the agreements upon system operations and planning.
  • Develop Operating Procedures to relieve identified planning criteria and operating limit violations.
Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering with Power Emphasis from an ABET accredited program

Certifications and Licensures:

  • PE License Preferred
  • Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening. Required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the overall electrical system and its operations.
  • Familiarity with transmission reliability analysis, including load flow, Control Systems network applications, and stability.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in load-flow and short-circuit simulation software.
  • Practical knowledge of PC hardware and software, general computer programming aptitude and the use of industry standard office tools, especially Word, Access and Excel.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
