Description
National Grid is seeking an in-house regulatory attorney to work in the Massachusetts Regulatory practice area of the Company's Legal Department. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a practicing lawyer, demonstrating excellent analytical, research, and interpersonal skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills.  Responsibilities will include practicing before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and advising clients regarding all aspects of state utility regulation.  Candidates with general knowledge and understanding of legal precedent, statutory and regulatory issues affecting the energy industry are encouraged to apply. Litigation experience is preferred. Admission in good standing to the Massachusetts bar is required. This position is located in Waltham, MA.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance with respect to all aspects of energy regulation in order to support the business client in achieving its objectives
  • Deliver subject matter expertise and guidance on multiple areas of ongoing concern to the businessto enable the business client to find effective resolutions
  • Exhibit detailed knowledge and understanding of legal precedent, statutory, legislative and regulatory issues affecting the energy industry
  • Exercise independent judgment on complex legal matters
  • Continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies for the business client
  • Develop and utilize peer group network in order to learn and apply legal, market and regulatory best practice within energy practice area
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply and modify complex theories and learned concepts appropriately
  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps
  • Recognize and actively seek to join and attend external forums/practice groups
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand the connection between the business and relevant research or information
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exhibit high personal standards, commitment and integrity
  • Offer creative and innovative legal approaches for the benefit of the business client
  • Establish a high level of confidence with middle management, business clients and external stakeholders
  • Manage numerous, intermediate legal matters efficiently and effectively
  • Exhibit the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Effectively oversee matters with significant strategic, financial, precedential or reputational impact
  • Effectively lobby external stakeholders to support the business client's objectives
  • Keep current with industry laws, regulations and trends
Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to, and in good standing with, the Massachusetts bar
  • Minimum two years of experience practicing law
