Description
The Process Engineer reports to the Technical Manager and is located at our Baton Rouge, LA site. The Process Engineer is a member of a cross-functional continuous improvement team for one or more of the site manufacturing processes. In addition, the Process Engineer is responsible for providing daily unit troubleshooting and support, monitoring and optimizing raw material yields and driving process improvements. For this position the principal area of responsibility will be ETF, Calcium Chloride, TOX and utilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop systems for accurately measuring key unit performance metrics, such as yield attainment, overall equipment efficiency and first pass quality for key areas of the process.
  • Identify and implement low cost capital-free' process improvements which improve yield and operating efficiency, debottleneck the process and maintain high first pass quality
  • Manage Key Performance Indicator (KPI) score sheets for the process.
  • Participate in regular process monitoring, mass balance, inventory and yield reconciliation review meetings.
  • Participate in unit technology team and process improvement meetings to ensure optimum unit operation and to manage the portfolio of improvement ideas.
  • Implement management of change (MOC) for unit modifications.
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) for MOCs, projects and unit revalidations.
  • Develop and implement resolutions to PHA recommendations.
  • Lead and participate in root cause investigations for plant incidents. Estimate release quantities for plant incidents involving a loss of containment.
  • Support Honeywell Operating System (HOS) by developing proficiency in tools such as 5S, visual management, SMED, total productive maintenance, etc.
  • Participate in regular HOS Tiered meetings.
  • Monitor unit performance and report metrics on material usage variance and unit OEE.
  • Develop project initiation form and process scope documentation for capital projects.
  • Provide engineering support for other Process Safety Management (PSM) driven initiatives.
  • Certify as Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt and lead others in the use of the tools and processes.
  • Support Maintenance Department with process information and calculations to assist in developing and implementing maintenance activities including Reliability, Preventive Maintenance and Mechanical Integrity.
  • Participate in the Weekend Duty Rotation.
  • Other duties and assignments as necessary.
Salary & Benefits

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering.
  • 0-2+ years of experience in Process Engineering in the Chemical, Paper and Pulp or Petroleum industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a PSM chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to get results and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to troubleshoot plant operations.
  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing would be a plus.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Experience with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Power Point) and process modeling software (ASPEN+ or similar)
